Summary:	Watching Hostel Part II is like having a small, weak child tapping on your forehead for ninety-four minutes. Then you get REALLY pissed off. Boredom is one thing, but there are many constant and shifting levels of boredom at play here. I couldn't make up my mind what to be bored at next! And I fucking HATE Dane Cook. At least Cook has an objective and achieves it on occasion, whether or not I think it's funny. But Eli Roth breaks EVERY SINGLE PROMISE a horror film is supposed to make. He's the Ryan Seacrest of Horror Movies. Compulsively bland, completely lethargic, and INEXPLICABLY EMPLOYED! Have you seen the first Hostel ? Then you don't have to subject yourself to HOSTEL 2: TORTURE BOOGALOO, which is an exact carbon copy of the original, except the torturees are women. Congratulations must be extended to Mr. Roth, who finally figured out that penises are different from vaginas at thirty-five years of age. The story this time around centers on Drunky, ( Bijou Philips ) Blandy ( Lauren German ), and Waterhead ( Heather Matarazzo ). They're art school students in Rome who venture to Prague and get swept up into Slovakia where the two frat boys and their pet Icelandic man Oli met much grisliness in the first film. We are jackhammered and benumbed by these three uninteresting women for a good solid thirty minutes of NOTHING HAPPENING! We begin to hate these women, for Blandy doesn't say or do anything worth the sweat off a dead hobo's sack, Waterhead subjects us to a piss-poor Willow Rosenberg impression, and Drunky IS PLAYED BY BIJOU PHILIPS! Whether Roth does this to callously harden us for the torture, I'll leave to you, but I wouldn't put it past that asshole. So naturally, same said grisliness must befall these three young, annoying stock characters. An actual Internet bidding war erupts among the wealthy businessmen over the three girls, organized by the shadowy, nameless organization running the torture dungeon. . . . read all

Summary:	Quentin Tarantino presents� is imprinted almost in bigger letters than the title itself on the DVD cover for Hostel: Part II , which means the movie must be awesome right? Sorry to disappoint you old chap, but it�s quite the contrary. Eli Roth�s sequel to an already mediocre horror flick is a major disappointment, which does a great job at misleading its spectators by promising �shocking and explicit� content and letting them wait for an hour before they get to see the first drop of blood. Hostel: Part II kicks off with an unnecessary prologue that follows Paxton (Jay Hernandez), the sole survivor from the first film, as he takes his final breaths before being decapitated at his girlfriend�s home. The film then abruptly switches to Rome, where three female college friends embark on a vacation trip to Prague. Once on the train, Beth (Lauren German), Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) and Whitney (Bijou Phillips) meet a stranger who talks them into traveling to Slovakia instead, and before we know it, the three surrender their passports to check into a room at a local hostel (although they could afford the Four Seasons). Minutes later, they are having a ball at a street festival, and sooner or later, all three friends end up chained to a chair in a massive torture house, involuntarily waiting to be slaughtered by rich freaks paying big bucks to kill innocent, and preferably American teenagers. Much like the predecessor, it takes about 50 tedious minutes before something actually happens in Hostel: Part II . But once the action gets rolling, don�t expect to be surprised much. What follows are five gruesome torture scenes that are less intriguing but a lot bloodier than what we�ve seen in the first film, culminating in a showdown so simplistic and ridiculous, it could make you want to grab the closest knife and cut your own throat. For the most part, the script is even more pointless than that of the first Hostel , and character development is conspicuously absent. We really don�t care about who these girls are and what they do, or whether they die or not. Summary:	Eli Roth is batting three for three (or four for four if you include the trailer for Thanksgiving ). Hostel Part II is not only a great horror film it is a great sequel to a horror film. It begins with what I take to be an extended homage to Friday the 13th Part Two , a clearing up of left over business from the first film. This gets things off to a bleak note, since the sequence implies that the Slovakian gangsters who run the house of death are invincible and relentless in their pursuit of escapees. From there, the film tracks parallel paths, a new pair of torturers and their victims, as they make their way independently to Slovakia (which must love these movies as tourism ads). There is a superb sequence in which an array of international bigwigs bid on one of the three traveling American girls the gangsters have captured, via an internet hook up. Curiously, the two villainous American friends who arrive as clients in Slovakia are both Desperate Housewives alums: Roger Bart as Stuart and Richard Burgi as Todd. Together they make a pair out of a Neil LaBute play, say, In The Company of Men , in which the alpha dog bullies the weaker man into something cruel. The victims this time around are girls: Lauren German as Beth, Heather Matarazzo (late of Welcome to the Dollhouse ) as Lorna, and Hollywood royalty Bijou Phillips as Whitney. This ups the hot chick quotient considerably. They are fully realized characters, and as he must realize, that makes the horror even more exhausting. The last 20 minutes of the film is a taut twisting of expectations and clever resolutions to impossible situations. Fenech is the cult horror star from the 1970s, a sort of European Betty Page, unabashed about getting naked, to the gratitude of adolescent boys everywhere, or at those who could get access to such films as 5 Dolls for an August Moon , Demons of the Dead , and Your Vice Is a Closed Room and Only I Have the Key , to name only a few from the giallo genre out of scores of films. Summary:	Roth has certainly taken this to heart in his films, layering his blood with irony and generous helpings of parody and homage as well. He shares this prankster attitude with his friend and producer Quentin Tarantino, but the thing that separates Tarantino from the pack is his overall moral vision of the world, where the bad boy behavior has to eventually reap what he sowed and learn the consequences of his actions. Roth is a bit more nihilistic and certainly more misanthropic in his storytelling. But this does not mean that Roth makes simple genre films with no redeeming value outside of a few laughs and cheap horror effects. And although those guys looking for a good lay in Slovakia were idiotic, Roth himself is no idiot. He actually makes you feel bad on a human level for Jay Hernandez and his crew, since no one, not even those losers deserved the fate that awaited them. The point of view is shifted from the isolated and unknowing subjective one of the first film to an omniscient narrative that creates ironic suspense out of the sword that hangs over these three young ladies from the first moment they appear onscreen. This just happens to be at some kind of Rome outdoor art class, complete with a male nude model that the ladies are trying to sketch anatomically. He lets us meet the two men who have won the auction to torture and kill both Whitney and Beth. Todd (Richard Burgi) and Stuart (Roger Bart) arrive in Slovakia and are given TGIFRIDAYS-like beepers to notify them when they must arrive for the big show. Stuart on the other hand is controlled by his wife and is threatened by his friend, and seems to be the one who will crack when the time comes to do the deed. Roth pulls off a great piece of dramatic theater by having Beth spill her drink on Stuart at the local festival, causing the two to spend some time together. Roth has Beth close her eyes as she receives gentle kisses from Axelle in the pool, and when she looks up, realizes that she is out there, completely alone. From this point on, the photography and set design become more expressionist and the events much more enigmatic. . . . read all

A few seconds later, when the children are lined up, the gun becomes a Beretta with a standard barrel. A few seconds later, when the silencer is attached, the gun magically has an extended threaded barrel (to allow attachment of the silencer). The silencer that was used obviously screwed on, which would not attach to a standard factory barrel. Hostel was a very flawed movie, made tolerable by the simple fact the main idea about people paying to torture and kill people was a very good one. It was disturbing, and the brief screen time that storyline occupied the movie made it worthwhile. Yet its characters and the plot surrounding them was a mess. I didn't care less about a group of American college guys going to have lots of sex. Not only were they irritating as hell, but they also never seemed believable. By the time we saw them start dying in gruesome manners I was practically cheering the killers, it made there irritating mannerisms seem worthwhile as we saw them operated on, beheaded and having half a hand cut off with a chainsaw. I was looking forward to seeing Hostel Part 2 as I was intrigued where Eli Roth would take the story. Would he follow the survivor of the original, or follow a new group of people altogether. The answer is a bit of both, as Paxton does make an appearance, but the major storyline follows a group of girls off to Slovakia to go to a spa. And its with these three lead character Hostel Part 2 succeeds. These three are believable, and actually likable. We have the normal one, the party loving one and also the sweet and considered slightly irritating one. They seem like real people, so by the time the nasty events begin we feel for them. . . . read all
