Summary:	Watching Hostel Part II is like having a small, weak child tapping on your forehead for ninety-four minutes. Then you get REALLY pissed off. Boredom is one thing, but there are many constant and shifting levels of boredom at play here. I couldn't make up my mind what to be bored at next! And I fucking HATE Dane Cook. At least Cook has an objective and achieves it on occasion, whether or not I think it's funny. But Eli Roth breaks EVERY SINGLE PROMISE a horror film is supposed to make. He's the Ryan Seacrest of Horror Movies. Compulsively bland, completely lethargic, and INEXPLICABLY EMPLOYED! Have you seen the first Hostel ? Then you don't have to subject yourself to HOSTEL 2: TORTURE BOOGALOO, which is an exact carbon copy of the original, except the torturees are women. Congratulations must be extended to Mr. Roth, who finally figured out that penises are different from vaginas at thirty-five years of age. The story this time around centers on Drunky, ( Bijou Philips ) Blandy ( Lauren German ), and Waterhead ( Heather Matarazzo ). They're art school students in Rome who venture to Prague and get swept up into Slovakia where the two frat boys and their pet Icelandic man Oli met much grisliness in the first film. We are jackhammered and benumbed by these three uninteresting women for a good solid thirty minutes of NOTHING HAPPENING! We begin to hate these women, for Blandy doesn't say or do anything worth the sweat off a dead hobo's sack, Waterhead subjects us to a piss-poor Willow Rosenberg impression, and Drunky IS PLAYED BY BIJOU PHILIPS! Whether Roth does this to callously harden us for the torture, I'll leave to you, but I wouldn't put it past that asshole. So naturally, same said grisliness must befall these three young, annoying stock characters. An actual Internet bidding war erupts among the wealthy businessmen over the three girls, organized by the shadowy, nameless organization running the torture dungeon. . . . read all

Picking up where the first film ended, writer- director Roth adds two angles to his formula, but neither is enough to make this grisly film worth watching. Roth�s slick shock- �em- up sequel is a dispiritingly traditional splat of gristly Grand Guignol. It�s tooled up to outrage, but ultimately numbs rather than grips. Those looking for wanton gore and violence may be sated, but those expecting more from this talented filmmaker might be slightly disappointed. I was scared, I was creeped out and I was grossed out. Hostel Part II is damn unsettling. Roth manages to bring something new to the formula by taking a closer look at how the operation works and who the killers are. Roth is not you're run of the mill schlock horror director. He's smart, and his films are clever works of nastiness. The emphasis on the wealthy 'hunters' who run and patronize the death club suggests a gorehound revamp of 'The Most Dangerous Game'. This isn't exactly a movie review. But "Hostel: Part II" isn't exactly a movie. It is pornography %u2013 shockingly violent, grotesque pornography. Three young American women who are studying in Rome decide to set off for a weekend trip somewhere exotic and fun. A beautiful model from one of their art classes talks them into going to a hot springs in Slovakia and staying at the local Hostel there. It's a big business and everyone is in on the action, except for the poor souls that vacation at the Hostel. I never saw the original "Hostel," but now I wish I had. "Hostel: Part II" was really cool and it was more psychological than it was blood & guts, which I wasn't expecting from all the previews and from what I'd heard about the original "Hostel. Director Eli Roth spent a good amount of time on the character development and really showing just how screwed these three American women are, long before anything happens to them. It built into a really intense psychological fear that was actually far more engaging and fun to watch than the blood & guts that were to follow. Towards the later part of the movie, things got a little weird and I was not a big fan of the surreal, dreamlike scene where one of the girls awakes and she's all by herself at the hot springs, when seemingly moments before there were lots of people there. From that point onward, the movie just wasn't as interesting as the rest that had led up to all that, but it was still fun and I really liked the ending. Overall, this movie was psychologically engrossing and fun, but it did get a little muddled down towards the end, which took things down a notch for me. I'm not a big fan of torture movies anyway, which is why I was really surprised that I liked "Hostel: Part II" so much. Three young Americans studying in Rome set off for a weekend trip when they run into a beautiful model from one of their art classes. Also on her way to an exotic destination, the gorgeous European invites the coeds to come along, assuring them they will be able to relax and rejuvenate. Will the girls find the oasis they are looking for? Or are they poised to become victims for hire, pawns in the fantasies of the sick and privileged from around the world that secretly travel here to savor more grisly pursuits? . . . read all

Summary:	Originally slated for release in January, the studio thought that it would fare better in the summer heat. So, here we are, June is here and Eli Roth's torture film has arrived on the big screen, sure to be a prime target of critics everywhere. I was all set to go in and hate the movie, or at least dislike it. There is just something about how they go about marketing it as the most shocking horror film. I just cannot accept that the goriest most disturbing film will be one that gets through the modern MPAA system with an R rating. I cannot and will not believe that. Sure, there was The Exorcist , but that is not terribly gory and I believe the MPAA was a slightly different beast then. Anyway, back to the movie at hand. Hostel Part II begins with a sequence aimed to horrify, yet I found it slow, boring, and ultimately not needed. Not a good start, if you ask me. The scene centers on Paxton (Jay Hernandez), the surviving hero of the first film, he is in hiding, afraid that the Elite Hunters will trake him down and finish the job. The scene really has no connection to the rest of the movie and only serves to tie up the perceived loose end from the original film. I have to question the need to even go back to the first movie. Why was it necessary to go back to Paxton's tale? Wasn't it enough that he got away, got his revenge, and returned to his life? I would have been much more satisfied with that, rather than the scene tacked on to kick this entry off. After the opening scene, the movie slips into the formula mined for the first film, except instead of the three backpacking guys, it is a trio of young women off for a weekend getaway while studying in Rome. While on their journey, they are approached by a woman who tells them of these springs in Slovakia that they should visit. Now, we all know what is going to happen. While the first film had that lulling effect in the first half, where you are not sure what is going to happen or when, that feeling of building suspense is gone. We all know where this is leading, and at some points, I just wished they would hurry up and get to the gore already. Still, I found the journey of these women to be a bit more interesting than the journey of the guys last time. The movie did drag a couple of times, but I still felt oddly compelled. . . . read all
