Storyline

Taglines:	1: Yesterday was about honor. Today is about justice.
Story Summary:	Bob Lee Swagger, one of the world's great marksmen and the son of a Congressional Medal of Honoree, is a loner living in the Rockies. He's left the military, having been hung out to dry in a secret Ethiopian mission a few years before, when he's recruited by a lisping colonel to help find a way that the President of the US might be assassinated in one of three cities in the next two weeks. He does his work, but the shot is fired notwithstanding and Bob Lee is quickly the fall guy: wounded and hunted by thousands, he goes to ground and, aided by two unlikely allies, searches for the truth and for those who double-crossed him. All roads lead back to Ethiopia.

Summary:	Feeling like a cross between an 80's-era Stallone or Schwarzenegger flick and Bourne Supremacy -lite, Shooter delivers a straight up, action-revenge film that is easy to get sucked into and hard to resist. As I sat in the theater and watched, I couldn't help but think this is the movie The Marine wanted to be, but that is an entirely different issue. Shooter is based on paranoid conspiracy where they are out to get you. It is an effective film that plays cinematic shorthand with character identification and gets right down to the action, never wasting a moment on an extraneous subplot. In this regard, this is a successful movie that will keep you interested and not tax your ability to piece together an intricate plot. This is not to say that it is not smartly written — it is — but it is also an action film at its heart, and it delivers. We are immediately introduced to our hero in the first scene. Mark Wahlberg is Bob Lee Swagger, a name that is more of a way of life (watch Wahlberg walk, it is never without a certain tough guy swagger) for this expert Special Ops sharpshooter. He is with his spotter in Ethiopia, protecting a pathway for a Marine convoy. Things go bad and Swagger and his spotter, also his best friend, are left to fend for themselves. Swagger makes it out alive and shortly thereafter he retires from the Marines and moves off the grid. Fast forward a few years, and Swagger is visited by Colonel Isaac Johnson, played with a decidedly low-key sense of menace. The visit seems innocuous enough, but there is more than meets the eye. Johnson tells of a suspected attempt to be made on the President's life by an unknown sharpshooter from more than a mile away. Swagger's expertise as a sniper is needed to help ring him down. Swagger doesn't want to help, but if he didn't, where would this movie be? He chooses to help and it turns out to be a setup with Swagger as the fall guy. Summary:	Jason Statham blew some bad people away and got busy with Amy Smart up against a newspaper stall in the middle of a crowded Chinatown sidewalk. That, folks, is why we go to the movies. And we do, always landing somewhere at the bottom of a ravine of mindlessness, playing around in our own muck, yelling with ecstasy from down below with our mangled limbs and broken bones. At a certain point, our disbelief is so suspended and bent out of shape that the sinewy sensation one gets from a Hazzard-type leap of logic actually starts to feel kind of good. So, when his partner gets offed by the mean impoverished people, the military basically washes their hands of Swagger. Once he escapes, he quits and heads up into the mountains of Montana, where he grows a beard and drinks beer with his dog. A few years later, however, some fellas from the government appeal to his patriotic sensibilities and convince him to help them stop an assassination of the President, basically by plotting that very assassination so that they can see how it might work. African country and then frame Swagger for the murder. Expectantly, shit gets out of hand real quick; in the mayhem, Swagger gets shot a few times and skips Dodge before the feds catch up to him. I feel it's necessary to point that out for some reason. Vermillion, Right you are. Just hard to keep track of them all. Though I guess Adam and Daniel are the only two Baldwins of any note.
