Story Summary:	When Fiona's father and King of Far Far Away passes away, the clumsy Shrek becomes the immediate successor of the throne. However, Shrek decides to find the legitimate heir Artie in a distant kingdom with his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to be able return to his beloved house in the swamp with the pregnant Fiona. Meanwhile, the envious and ambitious Prince Charming joins the villains of the fairytales plotting a coup d'état to become the new king.

Summary:	The first �Shrek� was a quite a surprising and genuinely funny stab at the fairy-tale genre (and Disney in general). It also made enough money to garner a sequel, titled �Shrek 2� of course, and the result was a damn near waste of celluloid. There was nothing new about that film and the references that made the first one seem so fresh, ended up making this one stale in comparison. So it shouldn�t surprise anyone that we have another sequel wrecking havoc on our lives this summer. Shrek the Third� is somewhat of an improvement over the last one, though it still never veers off familiar terrain. Essentially, if you've only seen one "Shrek" film, you've seen them all. Picking up right where the last one left off, Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are living it up in the Kingdom of Far, Far Away Land, posing as the King and Queen, as the real ones are off somewhere doing something. Before the King finally croaks (the King is a frog, get it? If you�ve seen the other two, you know exactly what happens next. He goes on another journey with his compatriots Donkey (Eddie Murphy, surprisingly not wearing a fat-suit) and Puss In Boots (Antonio Banderas). This time they have to travel to Worcestershire (if only I was making that up) to pick up the other heir to the throne. This land also happens to be a high school and the person they seek happens to be the class dork. Artie (Justin Timberlake) doesn�t fit in with the jocks and the Dungeons and Dragons -playing nerds don�t like him either. Imagine his excitement to learn that he has just been appointed King to a bunch of people he�s never met in a land he�s never been to? While Shrek and crew are off on their little escapade, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) returns to Kingdom with a vengeance. With the assistance of Captain Hook (Ian McShane), and a whole slew of other proverbial villains, he takes over Far, Far Away and crowns himself King. And you can figure out the rest from here. The real problem with this film, outside of unoriginality of course, is that the jokes are either too childish for adults or way too adult for kids. There is no doubt in my mind that �Shrek the Third� is supposedly geared for children but are they really going to get a Led Zepplin reference? Are they going to chuckle when they see a gang of teenagers climb out of a carriage with smoke pouring out of it as if they were just pulling a Spicoli? . . . read all

The third time certainly ain't the charm for Shrek the Third . Works' animated franchise, which has pulled over $700 million in box office so far, is rapidly running out of ideas. Here's the plot: Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) is reduced to acting out his fantasies on a dinner-theatre stage, getting heckled by bored audience members. When his latest show flops, he gathers together a gang of fairy tale villains, promising them their "happily ever after. Meanwhile, back at the castle, Shrek (Mike Myers) is desperately trying to avoid becoming Far, Far Away's next king. When the dying King Harold (John Cleese) informs him that there is another heir, the big green guy immediately hightails it out of town, dragging his pals Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) along, and leaving his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and mother-in-law (Julie Andrews) to mind the store. Never mind that this other heir, teenaged Artie Pendragon (Justin Timberlake), is so hapless that even the Dungeons & Dragons geeks at his high school torment him. Shrek is so desperate to avoid the throne that he's going to turn Artie into king material even if it kills them both. The first problem with Shrek the Third : this franchise is really running out of inspiration. Deconstructing fairy tales for fun and profit was intriguing back in 2001, when the first Shrek hit theatres, but creative drought is setting in. After all, how long can DreamWorks sustain a constant barrage of pop-culture references? When the writers start going to Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Six Million Dollar Man for inspiration, you know they're in serious trouble. Oh yeah, and I can see the looks on parents' faces when Junior asks them to explain the Hooters gag, or what "Don't bogart the frankincense and myrrh, dude" means. . . . read all

Summary:	Shrek and Shrek 2 were classic animated films that were popular with audiences of all ages. So many have excitedly journeyed to their local theaters to see Shrek the Third since it was released last week. Unfortunately, they are learning that the law of diminishing returns is in full effect in the third installment of the series. The first two films had both more humor and more action. This third film seems to be resting on the backstory created by the first two films. All of the characters are back from the first two (although many of them don’t really add much to the plot of this new story). It was a bit disappointing. None of this is to say that this was a bad film – it was not. But after the heights achieved by the first two films, this seems like a step backwards. Princess Fiona’s father is on his deathbed. As Fiona’s husband, Shrek the ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) is next in line to the throne. The only problem is that Shrek is not at all interested in taking the throne. He would much rather return to the swamp where he has always lived comfortably. There is one other heir to the throne. Shrek goes searching for him so he can retire to his swamp in peace. Peace doesn’t appear to be in Shrek’s future for two reasons. One is that the arrogant Prince Charming is using the King’s death as a chance to try to take the throne for himself. The Prince even rounds up all the other evil villains in Far Far Away to join him in his quest. In addition to that, Shrek also finds out he is going to be a father. He becomes very apprehensive about his ability to be a good dad. The movie, like the first two, actually tells a good moral story. The lesson in this film is that just because you have done bad things in the past doesn’t mean you have to continue doing evil. Even people who have earned bad reputations for themselves still have their future in their hands. It isn’t too late to make a change. . . . read all
